Our partner in social marketing, The Community Against Preventable Injuries (Preventable), has received a 2020 Drowning Prevention Award– Research for their project on recreational boating safety in BC from the Canadian Drowning Prevention Coalition.
The project, undertaken from 2017-2020 with partners BCIRPU, Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue, and Lifesaving Society, investigated the awareness, attitudes, and behaviours of recreational boaters in BC related to boating safety. The project was funded by Transport Canada.
“I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Coalition for this recognition. We were thrilled to undertake this project, and are very proud of the ensuing campaign and its effect,” said Dr. Ian Pike, Director of BCIRPU and Scientific Director of Preventable.
The BC Injury Research and Prevention Unit is a leader in the production and transfer of injury prevention knowledge and the integration of evidence-based injury prevention practices in the daily lives of those at risk, those who care for them, and those with a mandate for public health and safety in British Columbia.
